Richard Basehart (1914–1984) aus Zanesville, Ohio, kam vom Broadway nach Hollywood und spielte in Films noirs wie He Walked by Night (1948). In Italien gab er für Fellini den Seiltänzer Il Matto in La strada (1954) und den Gauner Picasso in Il bidone (1955). Später war er Ismael in John Hustons Moby Dick (1956) und Admiral Nelson in der Serie Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
