Chips Rafferty (1909–1971), geboren als John Goffage in Broken Hill, galt als Inbegriff des Australiers auf der Leinwand. Nach dem Durchbruch mit Forty Thousand Horsemen (1940) trug er The Overlanders (1946) und spielte neben Hollywoodstars in The Sundowners (1960) und Mutiny on the Bounty (1962). Seine letzte Filmrolle war der Polizist Jock Crawford in Wake in Fright, gedreht in seiner Heimatstadt.
