When a hardened big city police detective roughs up one too many suspects, he is sent to assist in a small town investigation – but finds himself On Dangerous Ground. As Jim Wilson (Robert Ryan) searches for the murderer of a small-town schoolgirl, he’s dogged by the girl’s father Walter Brent (Ward Bond), who wants to find – and shoot – the killer. But Jim finds much more than he expects when his investigation leads to a small cabin in the mountains and a kind-hearted young blind woman (Ida Lupino) who’s protecting her mentally handicapped brother – the murderer – in this film-noir drama of a man who seeks justice but finds redemption. Based on the novel Mad with Much Heart by Gerald Butler.
